What a connected assistant can see and do

A connected assistant acts as you, under your own CueCall account, and can never see or change more than your role on each production allows. Connecting an assistant does not widen your access, and it does not give the assistant's maker an account of its own.

  • Reads follow your role. A cast member's assistant sees the notes that tag them and no budget; a stage manager's sees the whole rehearsal log; nobody's sees a phone number their role could not open in the People tab. Inventory prices, measurements, contact details and documents are filtered the same way they are in the app.
  • Writes follow your role too, and only if you allowed them. With full access the assistant can add notes, tasks, schedule events, scenes and announcements, resolve notes, update task or scene status, add and update inventory items, put costumes, props and set pieces on a production, a scene or a character, and add or edit cues — each one refused unless your role could do it in CueCall. It can also send feedback to the CueCall team for you, just like the Send Feedback button: ask it to report a bug or suggest a feature and you get the same confirmation email. A read-only connection can do none of that.
  • It never emails your production and never spends AI credits. Announcements and tasks it creates are posted without the email notification, and none of CueCall's own AI generators are reachable through it. The one exception is feedback you ask it to send, which reaches only the CueCall team and a confirmation to you.
  • Each production can switch features off (Show settings → Features), and an assistant is bound by that exactly as the app is: a show with Budget turned off has no budget for the assistant to read.
  • It can work through your script page by page, adding cues and notes. Ask it to read the script from page 1 and add the lighting and sound cues it finds, to add a specific cue on a page, or to put a blocking note beside a line. Pages are counted as the PDF counts them (the first sheet is page 1), which may differ from the numbers printed on the pages. Each cue goes to the end of its scene's cue list on the Tech tab and appears on that page in the Script tab's cue panel; each note appears on that page in the Script tab's notes panel. When the line a cue or note belongs to appears on the page exactly once, it is pinned beside that line (cues in the right margin, notes in the left); otherwise you drag it into place yourself. The assistant can also edit a cue (its number, description, trigger, mics, characters, song, followspot operator, timing or page) and move a note onto or off a page, but it cannot delete a cue (do that on the Tech tab), and it does not set the timing fields used by the cue list for QLab export. Adding or editing cues needs a role that can edit cues; adding notes needs a role that can add notes.
  • It can link you straight to what it found or changed. Everything the assistant reads or writes comes with a link that opens that exact place in CueCall: a scene, a person or a prop within your production, the script on the page a note or cue is on, the cue sheet, a signup sheet, an audition, a rehearsal report, or a file with its notes open. Ask it to link you to anything it mentions. The link opens CueCall as you, so you see only what your role allows, as usual.
  • What it reads goes to the company that runs the assistant. Anything the assistant reads from CueCall is sent to that company (for example Anthropic for Claude, or OpenAI for ChatGPT), and their privacy policy and your settings with them decide how it is kept. CueCall never receives your conversation with the assistant, only the requests it makes. Section 9 of the Privacy Policy, under Connecting an AI assistant to your account, sets this out in full.
  • Documents are read as text, under the file's own audience. The assistant can read a script or sides (PDF), a design brief or contact sheet (Word), and notes, CSV or JSON files on the Files tab — only the files your role may open, and a file restricted to other roles is not even listed. Audio, video and images are described, never downloaded, and the assistant never uploads anything.
