Script Versions, Insert & Replace Pages
Need to add scenes mid-script — or swap out an entire act with a revision? CueCall builds a new version of the script for you, keeping each version's notes and cues safely tied to the PDF they were written on so they can never drift.
- Open the versions list: Click Versions in the script toolbar to see every version, with the active one badged
- Insert pages: Click Insert Pages in the toolbar. Pick the action ( Insert or Replace) and the source ( Blank pages Upload a PDF, or Choose from this show's Files
- Source options: Blank pages — quick buffer (up to 20)
- Upload a PDF — page count is read in your browser before submit so you see "act2.pdf · 4 pages"
- From Files — picks any PDF already in this show's Files tab
- Use only some pages of the source: When the source PDF has more pages than you want, use the "Use source pages" range to pick a sub-section — e.g. splice in just pages 5–7 of a 200-page reference document. Defaults to the full PDF; works the same for both upload and From-Files
- Insert mode: Choose where to splice (insert after page X) and what carries over from the current version ( Notes & cues Notes only Cues only Start clean). Annotations past the insertion point shift forward automatically
- Replace mode: Pick the page range to replace, then choose what to do with annotations on those pages: Keep Drop notes only Drop cues only, or Drop both. Annotations outside the replaced range always carry over with their page numbers shifted
- Replace alignment: If the replacement has fewer pages than the section it replaces, annotations on the overflow pages (no corresponding new page) are always dropped regardless of your choice
- Auto-named: New versions are named v2 v3, etc. — rename them anytime from the versions list
- Switch between versions: Click Set active on any version to make it the show's default. Click View to peek at a non-active version without switching
- Notes can't drift: Each note and cue is bound to a specific version. Switching active versions, replacing pages, or re-uploading the script never moves your annotations to the wrong page
- Export the right version: The "Download with notes & cues" button exports whichever version you're currently viewing, with that version's annotations stamped onto the PDF as a single combined file
- Deletion safeguards: The active version can't be deleted (switch first), and any version with notes or cues attached is also blocked — so you can't accidentally lose work
