Prompt book

Also called: The book, Calling script.

The prompt book is the stage manager's master copy of the script, with every blocking move, cue and standby written against the line or moment it happens on. It is the production's record of how the show is run, and the document the show is called from on performance nights.

A prompt book is usually built on a script interleaved with blank pages: the text on one side, the blocking notation, cue placements and notes facing it. When a stage manager is replaced, the book is what makes the handover possible.

In CueCall

The Script tab is a prompt-book-shaped viewer: notes and technical cues pin to the exact page, script versions insert or replace pages without the annotations drifting, and the marked-up script exports as a printable PDF.
