Understudy
An understudy learns a role in order to perform it if the cast member cannot. Understudies rehearse separately, attend the main rehearsals to absorb the blocking, and in many companies also hold a smaller role of their own. A standby covers only the lead and does not otherwise appear.
In CueCall
Each character lists its performers and its understudies; an understudy fitted for a part appears under it on the costume views, and the program's cast list includes understudies.
