Layering Text and Images

Slides stack photos and text elements front-to-back. Use the layer controls to move elements above or below each other — for example, to put a caption on top of a photo or tuck a background image behind everything else.

  • Select an element: Click a photo or text block on the slide canvas
  • Send to back: Click the "Send to back" button (a downward arrow resting on a line) to move the element beneath everything else
  • Send backward: Click the "Send backward" button (plain downward arrow) to move the element one step behind the next element
  • Bring forward: Click the "Bring forward" button (plain upward arrow) to move the element one step in front of the next element
  • Bring to front: Click the "Bring to front" button (an upward arrow touching a line) to move the element on top of everything else

Imported from PowerPoint or Google Slides? The importer preserves the original stacking order, so text placed on top of an image stays on top. If a deck imported before this update has text hidden behind images, select the text and click "Bring to front" to fix it.
