Work on props, costumes and set pieces is usually item-led — you are looking at the item when you decide who builds it. You can start a task from inventory instead of going to the Tasks page first.

One item: On the Inventory Detail page, use Add Task in the Assigned Tasks card
Several items: On the Inventory page, tick the items, then choose Bulk Actions → Create Task for Selected
One task per item: Selecting several items creates a separate task for each, so each piece can be marked done on its own
Show: Pick which production the work belongs to — a task always belongs to a show
Assignees: Choose one or more people; leave it empty to assign the work to yourself
Department: Pre-filled from the item's category (a Prop starts on Props), and can be changed

Selecting several items and several assignees creates a task for every combination, and the dialog tells you how many it will create before you confirm.
