Assigning to Characters
Link hair and makeup looks to one or more characters, from a look card on the Looks view or from a character card on the By Character view:
- Assign character: Click "Assign" to link a character to the look
- Usage notes: Add notes about when/how this look is used for the character
- Multiple characters: Same look can be assigned to multiple characters (e.g., ensemble looks)
- Multiple looks per character: Characters can have different looks for different scenes — the Plot (below) is where you say which one is on in which scene
Characters display as badges on each look card for easy reference. The assignment also feeds the scene page: a scene's Hair & Makeup readiness card lists the looks assigned to the characters appearing in it.
More in Hair & Makeup Tab
- Hair & Makeup Tab: The Six Views — The Hair & Makeup tab has six views, switched with the row of tabs under the title. The address bar follows (?tab=hair-makeup&view=plot, for example), so a link to one view opens on it.
- Hair & Makeup Tab: Creating Hair & Makeup Looks — On the Looks view, click "Add Look" to create a new hair and makeup entry.
- Hair & Makeup Tab: Adding Reference Images — Each look can have multiple reference images. Click the image icon to open the Add Image dialog:

- Hair & Makeup Tab: By Actor: Looks, Photos, Wig Measurements and Allergies — The By Actor view of the Hair & Makeup tab answers the question a wig maker or makeup artist actually asks — what does this person wear, and what do I need to know before anything goes on their head…
- Hair & Makeup Tab: The Hair & Makeup Plot — The Plot view of the Hair & Makeup tab is the department's running document: a grid with one row per character and one column per scene in running order, each cell saying which look is on and how the…
- Hair & Makeup Tab: Look Photos — The Photos view of the Hair & Makeup tab holds photographs of an actor in a look — the wig fitting, the makeup test, the finished look under stage light. A reference image on a look says what the…
- Hair & Makeup Tab: Who Can Do What — The Hair & Makeup tab is readable by every collaborator on the show and writable by the department itself, so a stylist does not need to be made a Stage Manager to maintain their own plot.
- Hair & Makeup Tab: The Hair & Makeup Department: Notes, Tasks, Reports and Scene Readiness — The Hair & Makeup tab is one end of a department that runs through the rest of the show. "Hair & Makeup" is a department everywhere the app asks for one:
