Who Can Do What

The Hair & Makeup tab is readable by every collaborator on the show and writable by the department itself, so a stylist does not need to be made a Stage Manager to maintain their own plot.

  • Looks, assignments and the plot can be added, edited and deleted by anyone who can edit the show (Director-level roles, Stage Manager) or anyone who can edit inventory (Costumer, Hair & Makeup Designer, Costume Designer, Designer and the other Designer roles) — the same pair of grants that lets a costumer dress a character on the Costumes tab
  • Reading looks and the plot needs only access to the show: Cast, Crew, Parents and Volunteers can all open the Looks, By Character and Plot views, so an actor can check their own look
  • Look photos follow the inventory rule: anyone who can edit inventory adds them, and anyone who can view inventory (including Cast, Parents and Volunteers) sees them
  • Measurements on By Actor follow the measurements rule: Director-level roles, Stage Managers, Choreographers and Designers/Costumers see everyone's; everyone sees their own

The Hair & Makeup Designer role

Hair & Makeup Designer is a person type you can give anyone on the roster, alongside Costume Designer, Scenic Designer, Lighting Designer and Sound Designer. It carries the Designer permission profile — full inventory access, view the crew list, create notes and announcements — which is exactly what the tab's writes ask for, so a hair and makeup designer invited with that role edits looks, the plot and photos without being able to edit the show's details. It sits with the other design roles in the Role Permissions matrix under Managing Shows.
