Creating a Show
Creating a show is a simple two-step process:
Step 1: Enter Basic Details
Go to the Shows page and click New Production. Fill in the basic information:
- Title: The name of your production
- Start Date: When rehearsals begin
- End Date: Closing night or strike date
- Description: Your vision statement for the production
- Your Role: Your role in this production (determines your access level)
- Poster Image: Upload or link to your show poster (optional, can be added later)
Step 2: Populate Your Show (Optional)
After creating the show, you'll be asked if you want to auto-generate content using AI. This is optional—you have two choices:
- Generate with AI: Let AI suggest scenes, characters, costumes, props, and songs. You'll review each suggestion and choose what to keep before anything is added. Best for well-known shows or if you upload your script/documents.
- Skip and add manually: Click "Skip — I'll add content manually" to go straight to your show. You can add scenes, characters, and inventory yourself from the show detail page.
Each option shows what it costs in AI credits before you start, since the two differ: generating from the title runs a separate step for scenes, characters, inventory, and the song list, while generating from documents reads them all in one pass. If the show has no poster yet, the title option also offers to design one — an image generation, and the most expensive part of the run, so it's priced separately and you can untick it.
Skipped it, or created the show before you had your documents? Open the show and click Populate with AI on the Overview tab to run the same guided flow again at any time — once the show has scenes or characters, that becomes a smaller Add more with AI link in the same place. On a show that already has scenes or characters, it only suggests things that aren't there yet, so it adds to your work rather than duplicating it. When you choose Generate from Your Documents, you can select files already uploaded to the show's Production Files as well as upload new ones — no need to re-upload a script that's already there.
You can also generate one thing at a time using the Generate with AI button in the Scenes, Characters, Inventory, or Sound & Music tabs.
Already have a folder of production files? Use New from Files on the Shows page (or the "Have a folder of production files?" shortcut inside the New Production dialog) to create the production from a folder or zip — see "Bulk Import (Folder or Zip)" under Advanced for details.
